AIGT In Detail
The AIGT is a trade association set up to promote the common interests of IGTs operating in the UK gas industry.

The AIGT maintains contact with the major Gas Distribution Network Companies, Gas Shippers and Suppliers, Government, regulatory bodies such as Ofgem and the HSE and with the suppliers of products and services to the UK gas industry.

It also works to increase awareness of the role of IGTs, encourage good relations between IGTs and other participants in the gas industry and to increase the technical and professional knowledge of those engaged in the transportation of gas through underground pipe networks.

Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs) operate gas pipe networks serving domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. IGT networks are usually directly connected to the major Gas Distribution Networks from where the IGT transports the gas through its networks to each connected building.

IGTs are in competition with one another to provide and/or operate local gas networks. The cost of the transportations services they provide to Gas Suppliers is regulated by the industry regulator Ofgem.

Membership of the AIGT is open to any company holding a licence under Section 7 of the Gas Act 1986 whose business is the operation of gas distribution systems, but excluding the major Gas Distribution Network Companies. See our current members.
